Books
Hi, I'm new in spiritualism and trying to learn things.
Am wanting to buy some books on first, what all the different kinds of mediumship there are (in detail not just generalizations); second, how to develop alone (no circles here, and only Sunday church where I can ask questions, no lessons available); and third, about energy and spirit (they can't eat like we do, so how do they get their energy -- and how does this affect us in interacting?).
So far, I have made up my mind to get all the Peggy Barnes materials. As for the rest....many of the short descriptions I see in the NSAC catalog aren't as descriptive as one would wish. I don't need mediumship 'proven' to me; or prove that the dead can communicate or exist. I need to know nuts and bolts of how things tick on the spirit side and their interaction with us. Why are certain things done certain ways? (and I don't even know hardly what to ask.....I don't know what I don't know at this point if you get my drift!)
For instance. So far I have figured out that the group or circle functions as a 'energy battery' for the spirits. I have tons of questions on energy and spirit, that I don't need to burden everyone with, but would LOVE to learn about IF there is a research book available.
Thanks in advance for the advice!

This may help you starting to track down books.

Re: Books
The very situation where our now dead Psychic News and its associated bookshop would once have been my first suggestion....
Does anyone know an alternative, equivalent source of books? I'll need that for when I'm back on the boards and trying as before to help those interested in Modern Spiritualism....

I would suggest this website:
http://survivalebooks.org/
Many of the books can be downloaded free of charge.
