Recommended reading for someone who is going to pass over
Hi everyone
Can anyone suggest any books that may bring some sort of comfort to someone who is going to pass over. Something that isn't too deep and heavy but that gives a good description of what to expect. (As far as we are aware).
Thanks
Mandy xx

Thinking about it though...the person concerned is a Christian who believes in God but also believes in the afterlife. I just don't know what to say or what to do...or should I do nothing?

"Life in the World Unseen" by Anthony Borgia would seem most appropriate, Mandy.

Obviously the Borgia books comes to mind and are easily accessible in eform.
Another interesting one may be SPIRIT WORLD AND SPIRIT LIFE, Descriptions Received Through Automatic Writing, by C. E. D.
[Charlotte Elizabeth Dresser 1875-] published in 1922.
This gives an idea of the way the communications came about , why they occur and many other aspects. It should also be easy for you to find in E form if not I will find a way to put it ointo another site where you could download it to look at.
Rev Drayton Thomas's book Life after Death, published in 1928, may also be of interest as the information is a record of 11 years communications through the great Medium Gladys Osborne Leonard.
These two are interesting becauuse they also go more into the means and evidential proof of the communication.
I will look through a few others for you Mandy

I think it will depend on the person. Do you know if they are open to this kind of information or would they view a book on spiritualism as something against their beliefs? I would be cautious about presenting them with a book unless they have expressed some interest. I am sure you have already thought of this.

Hi Obi,
That is a good point to make. Certainly one reason why I was looking for some books which gave more of the rational proof. Of course teh Rev Drayton Thomas was also a Christian Minister.
I have that feeling that there must be one out there which is suitable but much more general. To be honest I tend to worry about some of the books with After Life descriptions because I find some contradictions and some that would not give a great deal of comfort by what is depicted. In a sense you can feel the impact of the Mediums own pre programmed and subconscious beliefs coming through at times.

Mentioning Gladys Osborne Leonard she has a short book called the Last Crossing Mandy.
Just checking the two books I mentioned and this Last Crossing can be downloaded from Bob Bayers excellent site New Age Books of Truth and Inspiration http://groups.yahoo.com/group/NewAgeBooksofTruthandInspiration/files/
You will have to join the group, I have been a member many years, not all teh books are of value unless you have a very broad interest in subjects but his work scanning and rescuing books is of huge value.
The files listed include many great books and there are others in the 5 other mirror sites he needs to accomodate the huge library he has created.

Re: Recommended reading for someone who is going to pass over
Aw thanks everyone
I have wrote a lengthly reply and deleted it. Thanks for all the links. I will read them myself and pick out the parts that I feel are appropriate for her. I know that she has found comfort from her God and I think I shouldn't confuse her at this time of her journey. She is open to spiritual healing and she has received messages from spirit. Our grandad was a medium and she is aware of this.
After alot of thought I feel that all she needs to know is that she is loved and that she will be free of pain, she will be able to see her children and they will come to terms with their grief eventually. I am sure she knows that her family in spirit will be there for her when she passes. I will try to make her aware that if she can come to terms with her passing when it happens it will help her to settle into her new surroundings. My cousin is a beautiful soul and I am not just saying this. She has served the Great Spirit in so many ways with her caring nature. She has worked as a carer all her adult life and she is bound for better things. I don't need to worry where she is going because I know she will be fine. According to Silver Birch it doesn't matter what writings you read and what name you call God it is how you have served the Great Spirit that matters and she surely has done that. She won't be shocked when she sees her dad and my dad and our grand parents and everyone else, there is a tribe of them. She will be fine.
After a great deal of thought I think if she can come to terms with the fact that she is going to pass over in the not too distant future it will help her. She has already admitted this fact so she should be fine.
Thanks again everyone. I will not speak to her about any of this unless she asks me. I will leave it up to her. I have passed on messages from spirit to her in the past so she knows that I am here if she needs to ask me anything. I think that is all I can do isn't it?
I will defo have a read of them books though Jim thanks and I will take some extracts from Life in The World Unseen to just incase she does speak to me about it.
Regards

Re: Recommended reading for someone who is going to pass over
I have recently read this book and to be honest, even though I enjoyed it,I found some of it a little hard to take.
I am being totally honest here,so for someone who knows they may not have very much longer to live,it may be a little hard to believe.
But's just my opinion.
