Alice and Arthur
Interesting I love the line "He was moved there in the 1950s from East Sussex, where he had lived and died – and been buried there upright (because he was a Spiritualist, apparently)". Now I never knew that, as a Spiritualist, I had to be buried upright, have I missed somethingly deeply meaningful about our transition to the Spirit world.

Re: Alice and Arthur
It may have been local superstition to stop him rising at night and sucking the blood of innocent maidens.

Re: Alice and Arthur
Innocent maidens and buried upright is an odd juxtaposition Obi HMM I supose given it was Sir Arthur Conan Doyle he had some fictitious story to tell
