what a lovely lady 
Her books gave me an introduction to everything...
My wife went to see her at Sheffield and came home with a huge bunch of flowers - for me on my birthday from someone special on 'the other side'.

I knew Doris Stokes and her husband very well and agree with you. I can still remember the time, before she became famous, when she sat in my bedroom at Stansted Hall and wept because the officials there would not allow her to demonstrate at the College.
Shortly after she came back from Australia to popular acclaim and never looked back.
