Elaine Thorpe

I’ve been watching a couple of videos in which the above medium demonstrates trance. It’s quite a striking transformation and seems quite different to other examples I’ve seen (admittedly not many).

I’d be interested to here from anyone who has had a sitting with her or knows her or would like to discuss.

You may feel nobody read your post.So I would like to inform you I did.
I watched Elaine's video and I am impressed.I like the way she presents herself and
her guide Jonathan .
The message Jonathan gives is not really new but his way of explaining it
appealed to me.
I bought her book the Butterfly Circle.It is a very short one and I have just started to read it.
Seems very interesting and worth reading.

It’s a dramatic transformation isn’t it? Also the responses seem educated and fluent and the personality and articulacy of the purported communicator very different from the medium. I agree with you about the messages too both in terms of content and presentation.
What does the book actually cover?

Hi Paul,
Elaine Thorpe's parents were mediums and had a seance circle for
thirty years.The father seemed to have been the principal medium
but the mother also took part and she recorded the spirit  teachings in the book.
This circle they called the Butterfly Circle.
I had a look and the first teaching is  in August 1980 the last
is in February 1982.
I do not know why only 9 teachings are written down.Perhaps
the reason is given but I have only just started reading it .
I had quick look at the first teaching and it warns people
of not making the communicators into gods or superior
beings and always to go into oneself to find and connect with
ones own divinity.
This of course fits in very nicely with my own approach.
so naturally I go for it.
Elaine is also a very talented painter.I found her paintings really
something that appeals to me.

Thanks for sharing this I must have look. I was lucky to see deep trance with Transfiguration after my first meeting with Spiritualism in 1983/84 Lis was the medium who was totally overshadowed (Lis is obviously joint Admin if the Forum)

First Teachings from The Butterfly Circle.
Salient points as  I interpret them.
Based on keep it simple
A)Guides and the people they guide are attracted to one another and reflect one another.
B)Guides may advise but the responsibility of doing is still ours.
C)Do not worship guides.Go into oneself to contact the divine within.

So I sent an email to Elaine to ask if her book is read only and protected.
No answer as yet.
Still I will start on the 2nd teaching probably tomorrow.

2nd Teachings.
The subjects are clairaudience and clairvoyance.Spirit reading and sight have brought much comfort and illumination to many
thousands of people.
These gifts in order to be developed in gifted individuals require great discipline , dedication.
and possible suffering.Life consists of good and evil and spirit sight and hearing is not always what the medium
would like.Faith and courage are often needed.
It is essential  to grow character and adaptability to the spirit world .
When used for unselfish reasons and to benefit others the medium can touch great beauty,love and power
and those that have been touched by the heavenly choir will never forget the unrepeatable happiness of this experience.

I’m not sure I want the heavenly choir touching me. lol

I have no knowledge of what it takes to become a medium.I am not sure if "the heavenly choir"
is real or perhaps a metaphor for a state of bliss.I have not come across this before.Maybe
it is the feeling which comes from a being in touch with a greater power.Some sort of deep
trance state.?

The 3rd Teachings:
In essence it says all of creation derives its power from God.
God limits Himself by having an hierarchy and power is passed from intermediary to
intermediary all the way down.There is never direct contact from God to a human.
There is this chain and those gifted with mediumship are part of this living chain
passing on knowledge and healing to others who in turn pass it to more people.
God has ordained that the only way of spiritual progress is by service to others,therefore,the great chain of life
from God to man in its varying stages of evolution means,that everyone in that chain is fulfilling the law in a degree.

The 4th Teachings;
These teachings deal with the records of human life in the spiritual world.
We have been told that thoughts are things,which means they are manifested in colour and in form.
Like a movie.Mans consciousness is somewhat like this and our lives  are impressed
upon it and are always accessible.The act of recording is automatic.
Good has immortality and does not loose its power.That which is bad can
eventually be obliterated by deep regret and determined effort to do better.
Even if we are not completely successful,constant effort and with God's
help everything is put right.
The more spiritual the individual the sooner is the effort to do good,even while living
and progress can be made.
In reality we are building our next body and the next condition in which we will
find ourselves.
Self realisation is an experience of first importance and must be faced in one world
or another,and the capacity to "plug in" to the past is essential to allow it to take place.

The 5th Teachings:
This deals with demons and elementals and the very important role mediums play in helping these
poor souls.The mediums who undertake such work are truly special.They need to be filled with compassion
and love To overcome their fear of self-preservation and give way to the missionary spirit.

The 6th Teachings:
There is no use pretending when you pass through the veil of darkness to spirit,that
you are better than you are,for you are stripped of all this and your mind is laid bare.
It is impossible to be a cheat,for your thoughts are open to all.
For those who pass through the veil and whose 's lives had hidden ambitions,maybe
to paint,to sing,to invent which they were unable to do,when they pass to spirit
they able to do these things.There are no square pegs in round holes here.
When you leave your earthly body,you gravitate to the spirit plane which you are worthy.
A man who was mean  on earth would not go to a high plane.He would be kept back
until he awakens to his moment of understanding.

The 8th Teaching is just a few lines.
It discusses realization.
Realization is a faculty to help us solve problems in life.
Everyone has this gift and through this we learn the necessity
of discipline.Our realization is only limited by lack of
personal experience for until we have been through
pain and suffering our minds are incapable of imagining
what these tests represent.
So one can realize how our troubles can become assets.
By enduring we learn how they can be overcome.

The 9th Teaching:
This also a very short one.
"the road I walk may be long and dark
But at the end,I can see a light that God gave
to me and it will always be there for me to see"

This above quote was the end part of a poem which
comprised the 9th and final teaching
