HI. i know of the man you are referring too. What he did to friends of mine a few years ago would make your hair stand on end. He is a fraud and a sexual predator. He told women that he was jesus in a past life and that the women was mary madeline in a past life and that they must come together again in this life and have sex otherwise the womens soul wouldnt be allowed to go to heaven!!!!
The man in question did this for years.
Finally he was caught and thrown out of the snu. the case is indeed coming to court where he faces charges.

This man prayed on the more vulnerable women, those who were either depressed, wanted to be trained as mediums, or in need of spiritual help from poltergeist activity or ghosts in their homes. he claimed he could help them, then brainwashed them. He used them for his own perverted sexual desires, and used the snu as a cover for this. His guides were also as false as he was. Pure evil man. This went on for 4 years. until enough women came forward and the snu brought the case against him, so that the police could prosecute him. there has been more women over the years that didnt come forward for fear. not just the 2 that he's being prosecuted for now.

Just sometimes I think our more traditional Moslem friends have the right idea.
Lopping off an offending member must be a salutory reminder to the miscreant not to transgress in the future.
Seems this past few years there's hardly a year goes past without some flippin' male pervo pretending to be a medium of some such being caught at it.
We have CRB police checks done on us in teaching it's not fireproof but it's something. Surely they could introduce some sort of police check for mediums and healers? I'd be happy to pay for it. CRB costs about £45 once every three years or every time someone changes jobs, it's not that much.

to be honest i feel that all mediums should be vetted. all should have their certificates and grades and insurance etc before they are allowed to help others especially within the persons own home. plus i agree there should always be a male accompany a female and vice versa.

Holding a certificate and insurance slip, doesn't, in my eyes qualify or legitimise anyone. Vetting is a good idea (I myself undergo a mandatory CRB check for an employer - every couple of years), however - having a clean CRB today doesn't prevent anyone from not being able to pass one tomorrow. All it does is 'limit' the time they are able to continue acting as they do.

Might sound good in theory, and will certainly line the pockets of those dishing out the certificates, insurance and checks - but does it raise the value of the end product as in 'what the recipient' receives? I don't think so.

i suppose your right leslie - there will always be people around that do evil things like prey on others that always fall under the radar, whether they are spiritualists, mediums, christians etc etc.

You'll never legislate wickedness out of existence but as it stands a rapist could be released from prison one day and set up as a reader and advertise as such the day after.
Folk who come are often in a vulnerable place or at a fragile time of their life.
Mandatory police checks would at least identify those with previous convictions of the sort that should exclude them from setting up a shingle in our line of work.

I agree it would exclude them Peter, though like you, I've also seen the shall we say the 'darker side' of human nature through our work. My fear is it wouldn't exclude them all, as they will simply find an alternative way.

As for those who have passed CRB's as I said, it doesn't stop them acting wrongly the next day or day after... I know this also from experience, where I have managed people with a CRB, but sadly still had an occasion to suspend one or two for misconduct of a 'sexual' nature.

Bad people do indeed do 'bad things'...

I agree Katie, innocent untill Proven guilty and all that.. many people have had there lives ruined because of lies. And if it is true im sure the courts will deal appropriately. Its just a shame that they keep refering to him as the spiritualist...

this man did the snu circuit in south wales deming mental mediumship, but did alot of work privately. i know 2 ladies he did this too that didnt come forward at the time, and am aware of the mother of 1 of the victims in court who he did this to. I also know what the criminal justice system is like!!!

I try to look at it warts and all. In honesty the stories I hear of things people do never fail to horrify me. Certification and some form of ongoing review is one answer. I can understand where Leslie comes from on this but sooner or later one case will create a backlash which means that every practitioner will need to belong to a professional body which has codes of conduct, training programs accreditation and ongoing checks.

In Oz some of the horror stories in alternative medicine are pushing the Government down that path and I believe eventually they will step into the world of the psychic where anyone can hang a shingle outside at the moment.

It may well be no bad thing.

Not before time too.

Guilty: Newport spiritualist who made women perform sex acts

A NEWPORT spiritualist who deceived women into taking their clothes off and performing sex acts was found guilty of 12 charges.

Karl Lang, 49, of Winchester Close, had denied 12 counts of causing women to engage in sexual activity without consent between November 2005 and September 2009.

A few minutes ago, a jury returned guilty verdicts after a five-day trial at Newport crown court.

It is a terrible case and one can only be relieved that the man has now been brought to justice.

I must say though it does irritate me that they describe him as a Spiritualist as clearly (whatever affiliation with a Spiritualist organization may have existed) the man was clearly also guilty of fraudulently misrepresenting himself as a Spiritualist!

Personally, I believe he should also have been charged with fraudulent misrepresentation as well as for the sexual offences.

They should throw away the key.

latest update - im disgusted by this evil man and the things he made these young women do.
I hope people will learn lessons from this, 1 not to be so naive even when vulnerable especially when sexual matters are brought up and 2 never get help from anyone who goes alone to the opposites sex houses. i believe that people should always go to their local snu church and get recommendations and make sure they vet these people, and that they are never left alone. People need to know that no matter what religion people hide behind it doesnt necessarily make them a good or nice person.
it is an unfortunate way of life. but its always better to be safe than sorry.
I hope he rots after what he has done - im also afraid that he will have given spiritualism a bad reputation especially in the area he lives and worked previously.
im also worried that this may start a trend and see more cases being brought to court which may damage mediums as a whole whether they are indeed guilty or falsely accused and are innocent.
like in the past when there was the witchcraft act - what if the government bring in one about mediums and psychics brainwashing people if there is an influx of cases!?!

Hi Earth Angel given the damage that any Psychic or medium can do to people maybe they should. It really is up to us to clean up our act and take a lead. Howevr, a legislative framework that forced this would help.

Deliberately harming or deceiving another is wrong but do do so under the pretence of 'good' is evil!
