Now Maddie police will probe leads from psychics
Headline on page 35 in Daily Mail today.
'Detectives are studying around 100 logs of calls that were discounted because the callers said they were psychics or had dreamt about the high profile investigation'.
Madelaine McCann disappeared during a family holiday in Portugal, days before her fourth birthday; on May 3rd 2007.

I read that this morning,KK.
Why don't they trust?
I would say because every amateur pyschic in the country would volenteer an answer.
Lot of police work wasted.
May be a good idea to sift the same info from some pyschics together, for instance three pyschics gave same locality, same clues and investigate that paticular avenue?

They dont want to listen joan thats the truth of it. i have given them info on another case they said they had followed to many bad leads to listen to anyone else, even though the police man that i was speaking to , told me that all the info i gave him was true.

Re: Now Maddie police will probe leads from psychics
If I were a police detective, I'd want to talk with anyone who called and said he had a lead, from whatever source.
I'd pick the person's brain over the phone, if that's how he reached me. But I'd also try to get the caller in to the station, so I could better judge his credibility.
I'd bet that most detectives admit to having a lot of belief in "hunches" or "gut reactions", regardless of whether they profess to believe in "psychic phenomena", when called by that term.
Besides. . . I coud never be sure that I'm not talking to the perpetrator! Sometimes their own guilt, or arrogance, leads them to offer "tips" to the police.

I'm conflicted. On the one hand Jim is right one of those callers could be the perp in such a case. Also just maybe someone calls in who has some genuine info from spirit or remote viewing or similar. But then I am reminded of a self styled 'psychic' from round here. He thrives on coming up with all sorts of info about all sorts of crimes and every time one meets him all he talks about is what he knows and what he's phoned the police about that week. He's very odd. Comes to our church sometimes. People avoid him.

I recall some very sensible words from SB from a while back: 'The problems of your world are for you to solve. They are for your ultimate benefit. It is only when you have tried all that you know to find a solution and cannot, that you should seek our help'
On other other hand a lad I was at primary school with during WW2 became a cop and gained an enviable reputation for solving murder cases that defied all the standard police methods. He became a top cop as a result. I doubt if he ever knew of, or bothered with, the Spirit World.
On the occasions we bumped into each other, such matters might be discussed, but baffling cases were a sort of speciality and he always claimed that he 'just sort of knew'
He probably has learned some more as he recently went to Spirit himself.
It has always seemed to me that playing 'psychic detective' was an ego-trip designed to judge another - and consequently not a good idea.

One question.
Is this classed as Pyschism or Mediumship?

Re: Now Maddie police will probe leads from psychics
Could be both I suppose
Psychics could phone up also mediums might get something from spirits and call in.
Remote viewing is pychic if we do it 'flying solo'[I can't but know of at least one working medium who does that. Billy Roberts ex wife.]and RV is mediumistic if spirit friends bring and show the image.
Daily Mail like most doesn't know the difference between mediums and psychics.
Doesn't want to know either.
Wiful blindness.
Way of the world mostly. Very sad.
I agree with h on this psychic detective malarkey. Police work is best left to the professionals. If they ask, fair enough; but otherwise.......

Never ever knew a newspaper who knew a medium from a pyschic...
I vaguely remember at the time Maddie went missing.
I had a deep feeling she was in the States, where I got that from,I have no idea..
In a crowded room with many people in it.
The point now is,even if she was found, would she remember her parents?

Re: Now Maddie police will probe leads from psychics
I am sceptical about so-called psychic detectives. Belonged to a tarot site once where members would sometimes use their tarot skills to attempt solving real life crimes, usually murders or disappearances.
I took part once and then withdrew because of intense discomfort. I realise that I had a suspicion and the cards I was drawing were quite inconsistent with that. Couldn't do anything with that.
It felt intrusive as well - looking uninvited into the sorrow of others. This particular case was about a young woman in the US who went missing, Eight years later she has still not been found.
I also realised during that particular experience that some of the readers on that board were confusing projection with intuition and had little idea they were doing that.
Many people go missing and are never found. There are also cases here of young girls to whom that has happened. And cases also where bodies have been found but the murderers have not.
The Beaumont children in Adelaide were a family of three or four (can't remember now) who simply disappeared and have never been found. That was decades ago. Psychics have been involved in that case to no avail.
It is deeply sad for the families of these children.

Crime has a fascination. All those TV shows NCIS CSI and the like plus those police procedural true life things cater to an audience. My gran was the gentlest lady you could wish to meet but she always had a murder mystery detective yarn on the go the gorier the better.
This psychic detective stuff is no different, if folk didn't enjoy it they wouldn't do it.
Not for me ta. There's maybe spirits involved around it but not the sort you'd necessarily invite home to tea.

They brought one of the world's leading Psychometists over from belgium for That Q Gerard Croiset a.k.a. Gerard Boekbinder (March 10, 1909 – July 20, 1980). Had a reasonable record but found nothing.
Adelaide Psychic Scott Russell Hill ( he makes the psychic vs medium difference very clear when he works emphasising he is a psychic) knew the Beaumont Children and is naturally a little obsessed by the case albeit he has been unable to provide police with useful information. Of course he appeared on the psychic detective series over here with Cruikshank from NZ, Debbie Malone etc.
A bit like the US and Russina attempts to use psychic for military use it is just a little to unreliable to place great emphasis on the work of individuals. On top of that just about everyone who has a mental belief they are natural psychic detectives bombard the police. It would be just so hard for them to decide who was reliable enough to use. Its hard enough for the punters who pay cash to get a reading to know that anyway.

I'm a "results" guy myself. If someone can solve a murder, I'm all for whatever he used: Spirit, Psychics, hunches, ego trips, technology, questioning suspects, or whatever.

This one probably either never really talks to the police: or else he's a regular at the station, and long since correctly dismissed by them as a kook.

Re: Now Maddie police will probe leads from psychics
I have an interesting family link with an unsolved murder. It was back in the late 1930's. My mother's older brother - about 17 or 18 at the time - was out rabbit hunting with two friends on a farm adjacent to the one he lived on, when they discovered the body of a young woman about 20.
She was identified as having left her home in town a few days earlier to go to a "job interview". Local legend always had it that the murderer was someone with a lot of political clout.
To this day, it remains unsolved, and a black mark on the record of the Pennsylvania State Police, who like to boast that they don't have any unsolved murders.

That's still some record though Jim. One unsolved in eighty odd years.
Scotland Yard would kill for that clear up rate.
