Re: Charter for Compassion
Bit worrying if what some of the old time prophet-mediums had to say about a plausible coming world 'religion' was correct.
Not superstitious me, but why take chances?
So will pass on signing up, nice though it sounds.
That Karen Armstrong gets about a bit. Knew of her in London back in the 70s. She was the poetry nun back then. Genuine nun who did 'wry' poetry plus stand up comedy with a catholic twist round the clubs wearing a mini skirt and nun-hat thing, very much of its time. Went once but left, at the interval, not saying she wasn't funny to some but if there's no custard pies involved and no one falls on their erse; then for me it just aint comedy. She was never off the telly on local Thames TV at one stage. Then she packed in the nunning for book writing [Christian themes with a very slight new agey twist] and TV documentaries same provenance.
Must be knocking on a bit now, she was no chicken back then.

Job before this one was in a Northern university. We always took our newly arrived first year Chinese students for a night out at Harry Ramsden's in Blackpool to sample traditional English Fish and Chips fare.
'What did you think of the meal?'
invariably gleaned a response from them along the lines of
'Looked good tasted bad'
