Re: Chico Xavier - The Movie
I find Chico Xavier fascinating, a man who featured upon the official postage stamps of Brazil. A very special person but in many ways he epitomises the very difference of Spiritualism and Spirtism.
I believe that anyone looking at this subject should take time to look at this in detail. Indeed there are alternative views of Chico, just as there are of the Gods of Spiritualism like Gordon Higginson ad Emma Hardinge Britten.
Definitely they are all issues worthy of discussion and consideration.

Not wishing to sound in any way xenophobic but I've always regarded spiritism contrasted to spiritualism as occupying a similar position as does Black pentecostalism to charismatic evangelicalism. Great music and jolly exciting but unless you have roots in the culture then it's all a bit alien.
What plays well in the barrios of Brazil won't necessarily resonate in Bournemouth and Burnley.
Remember the furore we had when those Phillipino psychic surgeons worked AFC a few years ago?
Rather like those poor lost souls who convince themselves they are Hindus by dressing up in Hare Krishna robes and prancing about in Oxford Street. As an Indian Brahmin work colleague says 'Hindus are born NOT converted'. If our path's real then it's encultured so what works in one place won't necessarily travel well.

To be honest I am not that familiar with the works of Chico Xavier but I will give the film a go, and if I am compelled I may look into him further.

Bit like those pretend vicars [spiritualist 'ministers' in dog collars].
Puts one in mind of an old Jackie Mason riff.....
Hymie Goldfarb retires sells the garment factory and moves with Becky to Florida where he buys the big boat he's always dreamt of owning and joins the yacht club.
Pretty soon he's calling himself Captain Goldfarb.
Becky's sister Rachel calls one day.
So nu Becky Hymie's a captain?' Rachel asks
Becky...
'Honey to him Hymie's a captain. To me he's a captain. Even to the grandkids he's a captain.
But to a captain......'.

I don't care for the collars just the phenomena and evidence

The trailer was interesting, albeit confusing. Too many things being thrown at you at once.
I agree with Peter. Even more gets lost in the translation when we're talking about cultural religious concepts than when we're talking about words.
